Chinese Foreign Minister Visits Russia for Security Talks Today

China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, is scheduled to embark on a four-day visit to Russia for security talks, according to China’s foreign ministry. This visit is part of a series of high-level interactions between the two nations.

China and Russia have long considered themselves strategic allies, often emphasizing their comprehensive partnership involving economic and military cooperation. Their relationship has grown closer following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February of the previous year, and notably, China has refrained from criticizing Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

China’s foreign ministry announced that Wang Yi has been invited by Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, to engage in strategic security consultations during his visit.

According to the Russian foreign ministry, Wang Yi is also scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. The discussions between the two diplomats will center on efforts to enhance collaboration on the international stage. They plan to delve into matters related to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and explore ways to ensure stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

China has endeavored to maintain a neutral position in the Ukraine conflict while extending vital diplomatic and financial support to Moscow as it faces increasing international isolation. This visit underscores the growing partnership and alignment of interests between China and Russia on various global issues.
