Concerned Citizens of Kano State Demand Apology from Governor Abba Yusuf Over Emirates Crisis

The Concerned Citizens of Kano State have called on Governor Abba Yusuf to issue an immediate apology for his actions that have escalated the ongoing Kano Emirates crisis. The group asserts that the Governor’s unilateral decisions have disrespected the state’s cultural heritage and shown blatant disregard for the judiciary and the rule of law.

In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Mustapha Aliyu, the group criticized Governor Yusuf for altering the historic Kano Emirates structure without legal backing. Aliyu accused the Governor of causing harm to Kano’s cultural identity and setting a dangerous precedent for anarchy in Nigeria. The statement emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s actions have sown discord, fueled division, and threatened the peace and stability of the state and the nation.

“We, the Concerned Citizens of Kano State, express our deep disappointment, shock, and outrage over Governor Abba Yusuf’s recent actions, which have brazenly disregarded the rule of law and disrespected the judiciary,” the statement read. It further condemned the Governor for reinstating Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano and dissolving the Kano Emirates despite a court ruling restraining him from doing so.

The group outlined several implications of the Governor’s actions:

  • Undermining Judiciary Authority: Disrespecting the judiciary’s independence, a cornerstone of democracy, by ignoring court orders.
  • Disrespecting Citizen Rights: Creating unnecessary tension and division among Kano’s populace, denying their right to peaceful coexistence.
  • Crisis of Confidence: Eroding public trust in the government, indicating a disconnection from the people’s needs.
  • Damaging State Reputation: Tarnishing Kano State’s national and international image as a law-abiding region.
  • Encouraging Impunity: Setting a dangerous example of lawlessness that could lead to chaos and anarchy.

The Concerned Citizens urged Governor Yusuf to publicly apologize to Kano residents and Nigerians for his actions. They demanded that he respect court rulings and allow the legal process to proceed, and take steps to resolve the crisis in a fair, inclusive manner, ensuring the protection of lives and property while promoting peaceful coexistence.

The group concluded by calling on the people of Kano State and Nigerians to remain calm, peaceful, and steadfast in demanding government adherence to the rule of law and respect for the dignity of the people.
