Some members of a criminal gang that attacks and kills Uber drivers in Rivers State have been apprehended by the Rivers State police command.
In a statement given by the spoksperson of Police, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the criminal group has been linked to several cases of missing drivers in the state.
According to her, details of the gang’s activities were revealed by one member of the gang in police custody, Anthony Chima. He further confessed to having been recruited into a gang that deals with luring drivers into bushes, collecting their cars, and further harvesting their organs for rituals.
The suspect, Chima said they lured the drivers by calling and acting like they were actual customers in need of a ride. Afterwards, they would lead the driver to a remote location in Aminigboko, where he would be taken to a shrine, and gruesomely killed.
The Rivers state commissioner of police, Tunji Disu has advised Uber drivers to be careful, especially when taking passengers to very remote locations.
