Davido: Dad Says I’m a Legend, Grammy or Not

Nigerian music megastar He had a momentous experience at the 66th Grammy Awards held on February 5, 2024, in Los Angeles. Prior to the ceremony, He was interviewed by Rollingstone, where he reflected on his journey, family support, and the global success of Afrobeats.

When asked if he ever envisioned himself at the Grammys during his early days as a young artist in Nigeria, Davido admitted that the thought never crossed his mind. “I just wanted to hear my song on the radio. For it to transcend into these, it can only be God. But just being nominated and recognized alone makes me proud of myself,” Davido shared.

With a multitude of fans in Nigeria rallying behind him, including his father, Davido expressed gratitude for the unwavering support. He recounted a conversation with his father, who reassured him, saying, “No matter what happens, you’re still a legend.”

Reflecting on the rapid global success of Afrobeats, He revealed his belief in the genre’s potential, stating, “I always knew Afrobeats was going to blow up. Now we are getting put on platforms where people find out things, and I’m just happy that everything is just aligning.”

Davido’s journey to the Grammy Awards and his nomination underscore the rising prominence of African music on the global stage. As one of the trailblazers in the Afrobeats movement, He continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the genre’s international recognition. At his first outing at the 66th Grammy Awards, Davido lost all his three nominations. He however maintains his cheerful spirit and promise to keep delivering as he has done for over a decade.
