In the fight for command of the state’s political apparatus, Adams Oshiomhole, the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, is ready to take on Godwin Obaseki, his erstwhile godson.
But, Mr. Oshiomhole’s intentions in the most recent supremacy dispute with Obaseki might be thwarted by the turmoil surrounding the state’s primary election.
Remember that in order to choose its candidate for governor in the September election, the APC conducted a primary election?
Three candidates, however, emerged from the primary when distinct factions announced their own candidacies: Monday Okpebholo, Anamero Dekeri, and Dennis Idahosa.
Reporters discovered that Oshiomhole, who was outwitted by Obaseki in the 2020 gubernatorial contest, backed Idahosa for the position, receiving backing from the APC governors and the national leadership of the party, led by Umar Ganduje.
The formidable Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, is thought to have the support of Idahosa, a 43-year-old member of the House of Representatives who represents the Ovia South/West-Ovia North/East Federal Constituency.
Reporters were informed by sources that Oshiomhole selected Idahosa despite calls for a transfer of power to Edo Central because Idahosa is from Edo South, the state’s senatorial constituency with the highest voter turnout.
