EFCC Officer Testifies in Court: Ex-Governor Fayose Allegedly Received ₦1.2 Billion from Dasuki

A former investigative officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abubakar Madaki, testified in a Lagos Federal High Court that former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki paid ₦1.2 billion in cash to ex-Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose. Madaki stated that Dasuki’s payment was intended to conceal the source of the funds and eliminate traces of the transaction.

The EFCC has charged Fayose and his company, Spotless Investment Limited, with an 11-count charge of criminal breach of trust, theft, and misappropriation of public funds. The anti-graft agency claims that Fayose and Abiodun Agbele, who is also on trial for money laundering, received ₦1.219 billion on June 17, 2014, to fund Fayose’s 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Ekiti State.

During the resumed hearing, Madaki, the 13th prosecution witness, revealed that Fayose did not personally conduct any financial transactions related to the charges. Under cross-examination by the second defense counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), Madaki confirmed there were no personal transactions made by Fayose. The trial has been adjourned to July 19.
