Former Edo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, has died following a confrontation with police officers at a roadblock in Upper Sokponba, Benin City. The incident reportedly occurred after officers questioned his vehicle documents despite their validity. Tensions escalated, and Eboigbodin collapsed at the scene and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Civil society groups, including ANEEJ and EDOSCO, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the police, demanding the identification and prosecution of the officers involved. While the Edo State Police Command denied any misconduct, witnesses claimed the officers fled without offering help.
Eboigbodin, a respected labour leader and advocate for workers’ rights, was remembered by civil rights groups as a tireless fighter for justice. His death has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for urgent reforms and accountability within the Nigerian Police Force.
