The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a partnership with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) to engage the private sector in addressing challenges in the water resources and sanitation sector. This collaboration aims to create opportunities for private sector involvement and investment in critical infrastructure and services related to water resources and sanitation.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, emphasized the importance of private sector engagement in achieving the ministry’s goals. He acknowledged the NESG’s contributions to Nigeria’s development and expressed his commitment to working closely with the group to implement the ministry’s mandate effectively.
The NESG, represented by its CEO, Dr. Tayo Aduloju, highlighted the key principles that underpin a modern economy, including democracy, good governance, the rule of law, a conducive business environment, private sector commitment, and free enterprise. The NESG is ready to collaborate with the ministry to attract international investments and transform Nigeria’s water resources into valuable assets.
This partnership underscores the government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure challenges in the country and aligns with its Renewed Hope Agenda. The collaboration is expected to focus on various aspects of water resources and sanitation, including water supply, data collection, master planning, and regulatory frameworks.
The involvement of the private sector in these critical sectors is essential for improving access to clean water and sanitation services and driving economic development in Nigeria.
