Danlami Alhassan, a former chairman of Ningi Local Government in Bauchi State, has narrated his ordeal after being assaulted and shot by a police officer in Bauchi City. The incident happened near the Wunti flyover construction site, leaving Alhassan with injuries and his car partially burned.
Alhassan explained that a motorcyclist, later identified as a police officer, tried to stop him without reason. Concerned for his safety, he continued driving until reaching a more crowded area. The officer then blocked his path, struck him with a teargas canister, and caused a fire in his vehicle. Locals extinguished the flames, and evidence linking the officer to the attack was submitted to the police.
The police confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Thomas Goni assuring the public of an investigation. He pledged that the officer involved would face disciplinary action and emphasized the force’s commitment to accountability and professional conduct to prevent future incidents.
