Former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel Seeks Suspension of Monthly Pension Payments

Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, to halt the monthly pension/allowance of N676,376.95 (gross) that is currently being paid to him as the state’s former governor. Daniel made this announcement through his official Twitter account on Thursday.

In accordance with his conscience, moral principles, and ethical code against receiving double emoluments, Senator Daniel emphasized that a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was previously a state governor, should not be entitled to pension and allowances from that state.

Recalling his recent inauguration as a member of the 10th National Assembly on June 13th, 2023, he clarified that the pension payment is the only remuneration he receives from the state government as a former governor.

Furthermore, Senator Daniel highlighted that since leaving office in 2011, he has not received any welfare packages such as medical, furniture, transportation, or other benefits.
