Former PDP Chairman Warns Against Demonizing Protesters

Dan Ulasi, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, criticized the Nigerian government for allegedly trying to demonize a group of people to incite terrorism through upcoming planned protests against bad governance.

In an interview on Arise News, Ulasi urged the government to redirect their efforts from resisting the protests to addressing the issues causing them. He emphasized that this is the first time Nigerians are collectively speaking out about hunger, highlighting the need for government action.

“I hope they have not demonized people, because part of the problem is that there are so many forms of anticipated terrorism, where you demonize people or a group of persons to incite them to terrorism. I think that’s part of what this government is doing,” Ulasi stated.

He continued, “If the energy the government has used in the past four days trying to prevent the protests had been used to resolve the underlying issues, we might not be in this situation. This is the first serious time Nigerians are talking about being hungry.”

Ulasi also mentioned that addressing regional security could help alleviate the agricultural challenges and prevent hunger. He called for a collaborative effort among governors to ensure farmers can safely produce food, using vigilantes if necessary.

He concluded by acknowledging President Tinubu’s cleverness, suggesting that the government’s actions might have a strategic purpose. However, he stressed the urgency of solving the root problems to prevent further unrest.
