National Assembly Enforces Strict Security Measures Amid Planned Nationwide Protest

The National Assembly Management has informed the National Assembly Legislative Aides’ Forum (NASSLAF) of stringent security measures around the National Assembly (NASS) complex due to the planned nationwide protest starting on August 1, 2024.

Findwhosabi News reports that NASS has urged NASSLAF to disseminate the following security protocols to its members, as outlined in a statement by NASSLAF spokesperson Toyo Jimmy:

  1. Restricted Entry: Only NASS staff, legislative aides, and essential service workers will be allowed entry into the NASS Complex. Construction activities are paused, and site workers and non-essential personnel are restricted from accessing the premises.
  2. Increased Security Presence: There will be a heavy deployment of security personnel around the NASS Complex.
  3. ID Verification: Entry will be strictly based on the presentation of an identification card. Aides with a Letter of Appointment or Temporary ID Card will not be granted access.
  4. Visitor Restrictions: Aides are advised against bringing visitors to the National Assembly. Members of the National Assembly are encouraged to limit the number of visitors for the duration of the protest.
  5. Controlled Access Points: Access to the National Assembly will be restricted to the main gate.
  6. Cooperation with Security: Aides are advised to be civil and cooperative with the Sergeant at Arms and security agents during checks.
  7. Optional Attendance: Aides are not required to go to work during the first 10 days of the protest if they feel it is unsafe. The NASSLAF bus and PASAN bus services will be suspended during the early period of the protest until the situation stabilizes.
  8. Safety Precautions: Aides are advised to be vigilant and cautious of their surroundings and to take necessary steps to avoid danger.

These measures are implemented to ensure the safety and security of all individuals within the National Assembly during the period of heightened tensions.
