In a major development following the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election in Delta State, the Social Democratic Party’s candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, has voiced disappointment in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent judgment.
The apex court, on Friday, solidified Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s status as the winner of the governorship election, a declaration previously made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Kenneth , a former Minister of State for Education, conveyed his sentiments through an official statement reacting to the court’s decision on the petition he had filed.

Addressing the people of Delta State, Gbagi remarked, “Fellow Deltans, the 19th day of January 2024, marks the darkest day in the history of the people of Delta State.”
He went on to criticize the Supreme Court’s decision, stating, “The judgment is against the express provisions of the constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Guidelines and Regulations issued by INEC under which the election was conducted.”
Asserting his stance on behalf of Deltans and Nigerians, Gbagi, declared, “I, as Kenneth O. Gbagi, have taken this first stage that has ended with the judgment of the Supreme Court on behalf of Deltans and the good people of Nigeria.”
Despite his disappointment, Gbagi extended congratulations to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the validation of his election victory by the Supreme Court. However, he hinted at further deliberations within his political circles to formulate a comprehensive decision in the best interest of the people of Delta State.
“I will do a deep consultation with my political folks and will come up with a far-reaching decision more again in the interest of the great people of Delta State,” Gbagi stated.
