Gov Otu announces fresh APC direct primaries in Edo guber elections

A new primary would be held in 192 wards throughout the state’s 18 local government areas, according to the announcement made by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, the chairman of the Edo State All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship direct primary election committee.

At the Lushville Hotel and Suites, Gapiona Avenue, Government Reservation Area in Benin on Thursday, Otu disclosed this information to reporters.
He announced the cancellation of this past Saturday’s contentious primary election.
Recall that following the drama surrounding Saturday’s Edo State gubernatorial primary, the ruling APC withdrew Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma from her position as Chairman of the Election Committee.

Otu was chosen as his successor.

The APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, revealed this in a statement released on Wednesday. He said that the governor of Cross River has now been given the task of conducting the rerun election, which is scheduled for Thursday, February 22.

Additional members of the Primary race Committee comprise Mrs. Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, a former deputy governor of Osun State, Nentanwe Goshwe, Umar Musa, Lawan Garba, and Rabiu Suleiman, who will hold the position of Secretary for the APC in the Plateau State 2023 governorship race.

A few hours after Uzodimma’s replacement was demanded by four prominent contenders, the decision was decided.

Following the controversies surrounding Saturday’s poll, candidates such as Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chief Lucky Imasuen, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and General Charles Airhiavbere (retd.) stated they no longer trust Uzodinma’s competence to conduct a free and fair election.

Dennis Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives, was proclaimed the contest winner by Uzodinma.

The 43-year-old Idahosa defeated rivals running for governorship with 40,483 votes, according to Uzodimma.

The APC National Working Committee was compelled to declare the primary inconclusive due to the controversy that surrounded its conduct.
