Governor Fubara Promotes Peace in Rivers

In a resolute statement on Tuesday, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, emphasized that he is willing to spare no effort in securing peace for the state. Fubara conveyed this commitment during the 3rd Convocation and 6th Founders Day ceremonies of the PAMO University of Medical Sciences in Iriebe Town, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

The governor, fervently dedicated to fostering development through tranquility, assured the public of his readiness to pay any price necessary for peace to prevail in the region.

Recent high-level talks were initiated on Monday evening, presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. The discussions aimed to address the ongoing rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political mentor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Govt Fubara, reaffirming his commitment to peace, stated, “Let me say this to my dear state. I call you my dear state because the support you have shown to me within this period is immeasurable. There is no amount that is too big to pay for peace. I will continue to pay it.”

Following the talks, an eight-point communique titled “DIRECTIVES FOR THE RESOLUTION OF THE POLITICAL IMPASSE IN RIVERS STATE” was jointly signed by key stakeholders, including Governor Fubara, Minister Nyesom Wike, Deputy Governor Prof Ngozi Odu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon. Martin Amaewhule, PDP Chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka, and APC counterpart Tony Okocha.

Key resolutions from the meeting include the withdrawal of all legal proceedings initiated by Governor Fubara and his team regarding the political crisis, the discontinuation of impeachment proceedings against the governor, recognition of the Rivers State House of Assembly’s leadership, and the immediate reinstatement of remunerations for assembly members and staff.

Moreover, the communique emphasizes the non-interference of the Governor in the funding and operations of the Rivers State House of Assembly. It also underscores the reinstatement and approval of commissioners who resigned due to the political crisis, rejecting the establishment of a caretaker committee for local governments and nullifying the dissolution of the Local Government administration.

As the state inches towards political reconciliation, Governor Fubara’s unwavering commitment to peace remains a focal point, setting the stage for potential resolution and collaboration in Rivers State.
