On Thursday, Osun State activists protested peacefully in the state capital of Osogbo for the second time in the past week, voicing their disapproval of the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians.
Under the direction of Mr. Waheed Lawal, the chairman of the Osun Civil Societies Coalition, the demonstrators marched from Freedom Park in Osogbo via MDS Road to Olaiya Junction, where they spoke to the crowd.
Protesters were singing songs against the high cost of living as they made their way through the streets, closely pursued by armed security guards.
During the demonstration, Lawal urged President Bola Tinubu to reinstate the fuel subsidy in order to protect Nigerians from more hardship.
“No one thinks things will turn out like this,” he remarked. We never sent Bola Tinubu a letter extending an invitation to serve as our president.
“He declared that this was “Emilokan” time and made the decision to run for president. Nothing is operating under him now that he is president.Our appearance today is merely a forewarning that a large-scale demonstration will take place when we eventually emerge in full to occupy the street.
“We are requesting that President Tinubu restore the fuel subsidy. The difficulty is excessive. We have lost the ability to eat well. We won’t tolerate the government’s actions lightly unless they take the necessary action.
