“IG Sets Up Special Team to Address Insecurity”

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced plans to establish a Special Intervention Squad to address security threats in Nigeria. Egbetokun discussed this during a visit to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, where he sought support for the initiative, as Kano State was chosen as one of the pilot states for this squad.

Egbetokun emphasized the importance of the new squad, which would be swiftly deployed to manage crises and violent crimes in the country. He stressed that the success of the initiative would rely on cooperation and support from the Kano State government.

The Special Intervention Squad will consist of well-trained and well-remunerated personnel, equipped with modern facilities and proper gear to effectively address security challenges. Egbetokun appealed for the governor’s assistance in ensuring the success of the squad, emphasizing that the support from the state government would be crucial.

Governor Abba Yusuf praised the commitment demonstrated by the current police management in tackling issues such as banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery. He acknowledged the positive impact of policing efforts in Kano State, leading to a reduction in security challenges since the new administration took office. The governor affirmed the state government’s continued support for the police to ensure effective performance.

Yusuf also called on the Inspector General to support their efforts against drug abuse, armed robbery, phone snatching, and thuggery. He expressed gratitude for the police’s efforts in combating kidnapping across both Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

Overall, the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad represents a proactive approach to addressing security concerns and maintaining peace in Nigeria, with Kano State playing a pivotal role in its pilot implementation.
