Former President Goodluck Jonathan has criticized Nigerians’ tolerance for bad leadership, identifying it as a key cause of the nation’s political challenges. Speaking at a book launch in Abuja on Tuesday, he emphasized that citizens must collectively reject bad governance to force political leaders to act rightly.
Jonathan also condemned the use of military personnel for election duties, arguing that elections should be managed by the police and INEC, as seen in countries like Botswana and Senegal. He proposed a memorial in Abuja to remember individuals who negatively impacted Nigeria’s governance, ensuring future generations learn from past mistakes.
Labour Party’s Peter Obi, also present at the event, stressed that election credibility depends on leadership integrity. He praised Jonathan for ensuring fairness in a past election in his state and emphasized that eliminating corruption would enable law enforcement to conduct free and fair elections without interference.
