Kaduna: PDP alerts INEC, security agencies over alleged plans to rig rerun elections

Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Kaduna State chapter, has raised concerns about alleged plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to engage in “all manner of undemocratic, clandestine, and lawless activities aimed at rigging the rerun elections across the seven local government areas.”

The by-election will take place in the local government areas of Kaduna South, Chikun, Kauru, Igabi, Kudan, Kachia, and Kagarko.

According to a statement issued by the chairman’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Edward John Auta, “The party is concerned that the APC is determined to collude with some corrupt officials of INEC and security agencies, once again, to subvert the will of the people and declare the APC candidates as winners of the respective elections at all costs in all of the areas where elections are being held.”

The statement said that the PDP was credibly informed that the APC has perfected preparations to buy votes or deploy thugs to cause mayhem if vote-buying fails.

“However, we have uncovered from insider sources that the APC is working with some corrupt INEC staff to obtain fake copies of Forms EC8A which will be used to concoct and enter predetermined polling unit results which will be swapped with the genuine ones in areas where the APC fails to win or is not comfortable with the margin of lead, while the security agencies provides them with the necessary cover.”

It stated that in Makera, Igabi, and Kauru, the fired speaker and several senior government officials were urgently attempting to steal the people’s votes again.

The statement asked the commissioner of police and all other heads of key security services that would be deployed for the election to take note and instruct all of their officers and men to be professional, patriotic, and impartial.

The PDP also urged INEC to train all of its election officials to be as restrained as possible and to avoid any acts of manipulation that would tarnish the commission’s already tarnished reputation.
