Voter apathy affects Taraba by-election

There is widespread voter indifference in the ongoing House of Representatives byelection to replace the vacancy in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State.

The ongoing byelection follows the death of Ismaila Maihanchi, the winner of the February 25th, 2023 election.
Many of the polling locations visited had few voters, since election officials were still waiting for voters at 12.30 p.m.
This is despite the fact that inhabitants of Jalingo and Zing towns in Taraba followed the police’s orders to limit motor traffic.

The main candidates for the election are Sadiq Abbas of the Peoples Democratic Party, Aminu Liman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, and Aminu Malle of the All Progressives Congress.
