The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to landlords and Community Development Association (CDA) leaders, urging them to adhere promptly to the government’s directive ensuring accessibility to all interlink roads during the Christmas and New Year season. The government emphasized its commitment to creating a safe and secure environment, stating that the closure of roads hampers security efforts and aids criminal activities.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) emphasized that street-gate regulations were designed to facilitate easy access for residents and road users. Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki Olalekan, expressed concern about the security threat posed by those violating street-gate regulations. He warned that non-compliance might result in the issuance of warrants of arrest and prosecution for representatives of non-complying communities.
The closure of roads impacts the free flow of vehicles and creates challenges for law enforcement and emergency services. LASTMA urged communities to desist from unauthorized road closures, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure a safe and accessible environment for all during the festive season.
