Betty Akeredolu, widow of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for allegedly exploiting her husband’s legacy for financial gain. This follows the Ondo State government’s announcement of a lecture series to commemorate the first anniversary of Akeredolu’s death, set to take place on December 27, 2023, in Akure.
In a statement on her X account, Betty Akeredolu accused Aiyedatiwa of excluding her family from the planning process. She dismissed the proposed lecture as a facade for financial impropriety, asserting that neither she nor her family endorsed the event. Referring to it as “insidious propaganda,” she questioned the governor’s motives, describing the initiative as an attempt to profit from her late husband’s legacy.
Betty further alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa has been undermining her late husband’s legacy and isolating those close to the family. She concluded her statement with a firm rejection of the memorial plans, labeling them as disingenuous and self-serving.
