ABUJA, NIGERIA – Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lead counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has called on South-East governors to declare May 30 a public holiday in honor of over five million South Easterners killed during the Nigerian Civil War.
Ejiofor’s statement on Thursday highlighted the importance of this date in drawing attention to regional issues and healing the wounds of the past, similar to how June 12 is commemorated in the Southwest for the annulled 1993 Presidential election.
He emphasized the significance of remembering those who died and the ongoing relevance of issues that led to the Biafran war, urging the federal government to acknowledge the tragedies and release genuine Biafran agitators held in detention.
