Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced that he will disclose his preferred successor in January 2026 as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape. Speaking at the 11th Omituntun Ramadan Lecture in Ibadan, Makinde acknowledged the shifting political landscape but reassured supporters that his administration remains focused on governance.
Expressing gratitude to Muslim leaders for their support, the governor urged them to continue praying for Oyo State’s progress. He also addressed the political transition ahead, hinting that while some are already positioning themselves for the next election, he is not yet a “lame duck” and still has work to do.
In a lighthearted remark, Makinde told popular Ibadan socialite Abbas Oloko to keep his billboard space at Isale Alfa intact, suggesting that it will soon display the image of his anointed candidate. While he has not yet revealed his choice, his endorsement is expected to carry significant political weight in the 2027 governorship race.
