Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has attributed his loss in the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial election to the unexpected impact of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Speaking on Politics Today on March 4, 2025, the former PDP candidate stated that the political landscape shifted dramatically after Obi’s victory in Lagos during the presidential election.
Jandor explained that before the February 25, 2023, election, his campaign was gaining momentum, with the ruling APC appearing unprepared. However, Obi’s victory over Bola Tinubu in Lagos created a wave of support that altered the governorship dynamics, benefiting the Labour Party while sidelining the PDP. He described it as an unforeseen “tsunami” that changed voter sentiment.
Reflecting on the results, Jandor maintained that without the “Peter Obi effect,” he might have secured victory. He emphasized that his team did everything possible but was ultimately swept away by a movement that no one had anticipated.
