In line with Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s directive to close all local nightclubs, the Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended 46 individuals (14 males and 32 females) from the well-known Gidan Gala nightclubs.
The arrest was made to enforce the shutdown of these establishments. The suspects were presented to the press by Mu’azu Sa’ad, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, along with the state Public Relations Officer. Sa’ad explained that the suspects had engaged in immoral and criminal activities within the premises of Gidan Gala.
Sa’ad clarified that some parents of the detainees had been contacted, and the command would proceed to take legal action against them.
Although the directive to close the nightclubs was issued around 4 pm on Monday, the arrests occurred at approximately 9 pm the same day.
Sa’ad stated, “The suspects were apprehended at various locations, including Sabon Gida BCGA, Jamiyar Gadan Gala at New Mile 6, Gidan Wasa/Gidan Drama at New Mile 3, and Liji along Kalshingi Road.”
Usman Muhammad, the Chairman of ‘Masu Gidan Gala da Wasa,’ who was also among the apprehended, highlighted that these clubhouses serve as both entertainment venues and sources of income for many of the girls. He emphasized that the entertainment offered includes dances and dramas, which not only entertain but also address societal issues.
