Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has reassured Nigerian workers that the national minimum wage will be reviewed in under two years. Speaking in Umuahia after a meeting with labour leaders, she affirmed the government’s commitment to periodic wage reviews, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s focus on improving workers’ welfare.
Onyejeocha highlighted the administration’s plan to shorten the usual five-year wage review cycle to three years, ensuring better responsiveness to economic realities. She reminded workers of Tinubu’s approval of a ₦70,000 minimum wage in July 2024 and his pledge to sustain timely adjustments. Urging labour leaders to promote workplace harmony, Onyejeocha called for a strike-free year to enhance productivity through collaboration.
Abia State NLC Chairman, Ogbomna Okoro, praised the minister’s dedication, describing her as a source of pride for workers. He pledged continued partnership to advance workers’ welfare, reinforcing a shared commitment to maintaining peace and fostering progress in the labour sector.
