Former Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Badmus Dolapo, has recalled the heavy criticism she faced after speaking out against Nigerian musician Naira Marley in 2019 regarding his lifestyle and controversial remarks about women.
Dolapo had criticized Naira Marley’s comments about women’s bodies, specifically his tweet suggesting that having a big butt was better than having a Master’s degree. Her comments sparked backlash at the time.
Amid the controversy surrounding the death of Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, Dolapo expressed her frustration with being tagged in social media posts related to the case. She emphasized that relevant authorities are currently investigating the matter.
In her Instagram post, Dolapo wrote, “So much tags on me, I plead I’m [sic] left out of tagging, relevant authorities are on this matter. When I singlehandedly spoke up against this character and imminent danger it portrays, I was bashed both inside and out, a danger not curtailed will become ‘hydraheaded,’ my heart is with the departed and everything that represents him.”
Dolapo’s criticism of Naira Marley in 2019 had led to a public exchange between her and the musician. Naira Marley responded by making derogatory remarks about her.
The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death emerged in 2022 when the singer alleged that he had been assaulted by his management team after he requested a change of manager.
