NIMC Launches Self-Service NIN Registration App

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a self-service solution that enables Nigerians to register for the National Identification Number (NIN) using their smartphones from the comfort of their homes. This initiative was launched during the commemoration of the 5th Identity Day by the Commission and the Ministry of Interior in Abuja.

Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Acting Director General/CEO of NIMC, emphasized the importance of identity in the country, stating that it unlocks access to essential services, social benefits, and opportunities for personal and economic growth. She also highlighted the need to prioritize privacy and data protection in identity management systems.

The self-service solution aims to improve the registration process’s efficiency and reduce the turnaround time for NIN registration. Users can register through the application, and those without digital tools can visit NIMC offices or front-end partners for assistance.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, stated that the Federal Government intends to harmonize all identity data, including data from sources like the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and voters’ identification, in collaboration with NIMC.

The NIMC self-service enrolment system is powered by Banksforte Technology Limited, a subsidiary of Banksforte Group. However, as of now, the application was not available for download on PlayStore and App Store.

This initiative is expected to make the NIN registration process more accessible and convenient for Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, by reducing the need for physical visits to NIMC offices or partner-agent offices.
