The Chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s silence on the Kano Emirate crisis, warning it could cost him the 2027 presidency. Dungurawa urged Tinubu to take action to ensure the deposed Emir, Ado Bayero, is banished from Kano.
Speaking to newsmen in his Lugard House office on Sunday, Dungurawa stated, “Your perceived stance on the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle would surely work against you in the 2027 presidential polls because if you think you can use it to secure grounds in Kano, when the chips are down it will dawn on you that you have made costly mistakes.”
The NNPP chairman also revealed that the party plans to present Rabiu Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate in 2027, asserting that the former Kano State Governor has the potential to win the election. “We are going to field Kwankwaso as our party’s presidential flag-bearer in 2027, because for now, he stands as the only person who will make it to the Presidency and he stands the chances of becoming the next President, God willing,” Dungurawa added.
