The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress has advised supporters of Kogi State’s immediate past governor, Yahaya Bello, not to cause confusion inside the party, citing the fact that the office of national chairman is currently occupied.
Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, issued the warning during a press conference held on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat.
Rumours of Bello’s interest in the party’s leadership position have spread quickly, just 48 hours after he handed it over to Governor Usman Ododo.
On Monday, posters of the former governor were seen all around Abuja, including at the ruling party’s national secretariat.
However, after the meeting of its National Working Committee, Morka underlined that the position of APC national chairman being floated by Bello’s supporters is now held by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State.
He stated, “There is no vacancy in the office of the APC National Chairman.” Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje remains our chairman. This is a democracy where people can do whatever they want.
“We are completely confident in the party’s leadership. However, make no mistake: the post of national chairman is properly and fully occupied.
Nobody is asking for the office to be declared empty, which it is not. I’d like to warn individuals who are throwing these papers about to stop doing so.
“That is not our top focus right now. We must focus on the tasks at hand in order to address some of the issues that will make our country a better place for all of us.”
