The Ogun State House of Assembly has taken swift action in response to the concerning issues surrounding local government funds within the state. The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, has called upon the state’s Accountant-General and all members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee to appear before the Assembly on Friday at 1 p.m.
During the Thursday plenary, Speaker Oluomo emphasized the necessity of their presence for a comprehensive explanation. The goal is to provide the Assembly with a clear understanding of the situation within the local governments and enable them to make informed decisions.
Oluomo stated, “We hold the authority to investigate matters within our state and subsequently take the appropriate steps. However, I appeal to all parties involved to uphold law, peace, and order, especially in Ijebu East local government, where reports of protests have emerged. It’s crucial for everyone to remain calm and permit us to fulfill our responsibilities.”
The invited officials—the state’s Accountant-General and members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee—are requested to elucidate the ongoing circumstances to the Assembly. This step aims to ensure the citizens of the state are fully informed.
By summoning these key individuals, the Ogun State House of Assembly underscores its commitment to transparency, effective governance, and addressing issues promptly.
