Oyo State Tragedy: Three Rulers Lost

In a heart-wrenching incident, three revered traditional rulers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State lost their lives in a fatal auto crash on Friday. The devastating incident also left nine individuals injured in a separate accident on the same day.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the tragedy unfolded in a road collision involving a Benz E230 with the license plate OLODOGBO and a commercial Scania Truck marked with registration number 301 XF at Aje Iye in the local government area.

Investigations disclosed that two of the traditional rulers met their untimely demise at the accident scene, while the third succumbed to injuries a few hours later at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, where immediate medical attention was sought.

Olawoyin Adekunle, an eyewitness, shared, “Six passengers were involved in the crash, but the three survivors are undergoing treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. The affected passengers were going for a social function at the nearby community when the accident occurred.”

The deceased traditional rulers have been identified as the Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro in Oriire Local Government.

State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the incident, stating, “It was a head-on collision involving a private and commercial vehicle on Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway. The survivors are undergoing treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital while the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.”

In a related development on the same fateful day, Adekanye also verified that nine out of thirteen persons suffered varying degrees of burns when a truck caught fire on Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention in the hospital.
