PENGASSAN President Calls for Better Petrol Reserves

Festus Osifo, the President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has highlighted the need to address logistical challenges to eliminate recurring petrol shortages. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Osifo stressed that without significant improvements in logistics, such as fixing pipelines and establishing strategic reserves, petrol scarcities are likely to persist.

Osifo explained that while temporary solutions might ease the shortage, long-term relief requires addressing the root logistical issues. He suggested setting up strategic reserves across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones to better manage supply and mitigate disruptions. According to Osifo, this approach would help ensure a steady distribution of petrol and reduce the impact of local or international supply challenges.

He warned that without these changes, the issue of petrol scarcity could return even if resolved in the short term. Osifo’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of current distribution systems and the need for a more resilient approach to managing Nigeria’s fuel supply.
