The Police Service Commission (PSC) has revealed its plans to deploy staff monitors for the forthcoming governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States. These staff monitors will be sent to all the senatorial districts in the three states, with the primary responsibility of closely monitoring the conduct of policemen assigned to election duties.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the commission, emphasized that the PSC will hold police officers accountable for their actions and inactions during the election period. Any officer found to be lacking in the discharge of their election duties will face appropriate disciplinary actions.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC, stressed the importance of police officers conducting themselves with the utmost integrity and professionalism throughout the election process. He urged the officers to adhere to established laws and guidelines for election duty, emphasizing that the success or failure of the elections largely depends on their actions and behavior.
The Chairman also highlighted the critical role of police officers in maintaining internal security during elections. He acknowledged the importance of the PSC’s monitoring efforts in contributing to the credibility and sustainability of democracy in Nigeria.
The deployment of staff monitors by the PSC is part of the commission’s commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
