Police Confirm Beheading of 70-Year-Old LP Chieftain in Abia

The Abia State Police have confirmed the tragic death of Mr. Zachary Maduka, a Campaign Director for the Labour Party during the 2023 elections in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state. The 70-year-old native of Ezieke Akpukpa village was brutally beheaded by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.

The statement from the police read, “Mr. Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community. Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Tragically, they recovered Mr. Maduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains were promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu.”

Mr. Maduka was not only a campaign director but also the home branch chairman of Uturu Development Union. The assailants, who were reportedly armed with pump action guns, cutlasses, and other weapons, numbered about 10 and shot him at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community. The victim was dragged on the ground before being beheaded, and his head was taken away by the attackers.

This shocking incident is currently under investigation as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for this gruesome act.
