President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Zaccheus Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, it was announced that Zaccheus Adedeji has been appointed in an acting capacity for a period of 90 days. After this interim period, he will be subsequently confirmed as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for an initial term of four years.
The statement also revealed that the outgoing FIRS Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, who has held the position since December 2019, has been directed to immediately proceed on three months of pre-retirement leave. This directive is in accordance with Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, and it will lead to his retirement from service on December 8, 2023.
Zaccheus Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He has previously served as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue and has held key positions such as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Sugar Development Council.
The statement emphasized that the new appointment takes immediate effect.
