The circumstances surrounding the death of a 100-level Course 9 police cadet, Sulaiman Jika, at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, have not yet been fully uncovered by a seven-man panel of inquiry appointed by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.
The panel, led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Abiodun Alabi, was established following reports that Jika had died on the academy’s premises after suffering from a brief illness, allegedly caused by starvation and malnourishment.
The investigation into the matter is still ongoing, according to Alabi. Despite the four-day ultimatum given by the Inspector-General of Police, the panel has not yet concluded its investigation.
Jika’s death raised concerns about the conditions and treatment of cadets at the police academy, with some cadets alleging high-handedness and poor feeding. Cadets claimed that Jika was not given proper medical attention at the academy’s clinic due to a lack of medication and medical staff, leading to his unfortunate demise.
The police panel aims to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, and its findings and recommendations will be made public once the investigation is completed.
