Search Intensifies for Man Who Jumped from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge into Lagoon

Efforts have been intensified by the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the State Waterway Authority (LASWA) to locate the body of a man who jumped from the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge into the lagoon.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, with passersby providing eyewitness accounts of the tragic event. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident and stated that marine police and emergency officials were present at the scene, striving to retrieve the man’s body, dead or alive.

Amodu Shakiru, Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, acknowledged receiving a distress call and dispatching personnel to the location. However, no updates were available at the time.

Eyewitnesses, including one named Temitope, expressed their shock and concern on social media, emphasizing the reality of depression and urging people to seek help when needed.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin also clarified that there was no video evidence of the man jumping and that his identity as a dispatched rider could not be confirmed.

Damilola Emmanuel, General Manager of LASWA, urged people not to succumb to depression and advised reaching out to helplines like 767 and 112 for support. He emphasized that the Lagos State government couldn’t station personnel at all bridges and encouraged individuals to watch out for each other.
