Corps, under the leadership of Retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending a 37-year-old man known for his knack for breaking into houses and stealing in the state. The suspect, Sola Ajibade from Ibadan, Oyo State, was caught red-handed in Ode-Omu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun on August 8, 2023.
The operation’s success was attributed to the quick response of Amotekun operatives from the Irewole Area Command, Ode-Omu. The suspect’s modus operandi involved using a robust log of wood to break through burglary bars, exploiting the absence of homeowners at work to carry out his thefts.
In this instance, he targeted a house in Ode-Omu and made off with a 32-inch Plasma TV. However, vigilant residents thwarted his plans and promptly alerted the authorities. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to this crime and revealed that this wasn’t his first offense. He disclosed his regular practice of selling stolen items in Makola, Ibadan.
Amotekun acted swiftly, handing the suspect over to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution. This case highlights the importance of community cooperation and the dedicated efforts of security agencies in maintaining safety and preventing criminal activities.
