Senate Approves 300% Salary Increase for Judicial Officers

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate approved a bill granting a 300 percent salary increase for judicial officers. This decision followed a report from the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters and the consideration of an executive bill proposed by President Bola Tinubu.

The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters,” aims to enhance the remuneration and benefits for judicial officers and workers. The new salary structure includes a monthly package of ₦5,385,047.26 for the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and ₦4,213,192.54 for Supreme Court Justices.

Other key positions affected by the increase include the President of the Court of Appeal, earning ₦4,478,415.78, and justices of the Court of Appeal, who will receive ₦3,726,665.40 monthly. Various chief judges and presidents of courts at both federal and state levels are also set to benefit from the revised salary structure, with monthly packages of ₦3,527,022.61.
