The Senate has been thrown into controversy as Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North dismissed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Nwaebonyi claimed Natasha only made the accusations after losing her position as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions rejected Natasha’s petition, declaring it “dead on arrival” due to procedural violations. Speaking on national television, Nwaebonyi alleged that Natasha was displeased with her reassignment to the Diaspora Committee and was putting her personal interests above those of Nigeria and her constituents.
This development has further fueled debates over internal Senate politics, with many questioning whether the accusations are genuine or a reaction to political maneuvering.
