Senator Sunday Katung, who represents the Kaduna South Senatorial District, has made an urgent appeal to security agencies to conduct a one-month intensive military operation in the region’s forests. This appeal follows a recent tragic incident where terrorists burned a Catholic seminarian to death in the community of Fadan Kamantan, located in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
The attack occurred when armed assailants invaded the residence of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okolo, on a Thursday evening, setting the entire rectory on fire and resulting in the death of a seminarian named Na’aman Ngofe Danladi.
In a statement issued to the press on Friday, Senator Katung expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and emphasized that evil had once again struck their otherwise peaceful community. He called on security agencies to launch a comprehensive month-long operation in the Southern Kaduna forest areas to significantly weaken the bandits and kidnappers operating there. He also urged that anyone found assisting or supporting criminal activities should face appropriate consequences.
Senator Katung pointed out that the resurgence of terrorism along the Kaduna-Kachia Road posed a direct challenge to the Federal Government and, specifically, to the security agencies. He emphasized the need to take the fight against these criminals to a higher level.
He stated, “I unequivocally condemn this horrific terrorist attack that claimed the life of our young seminarian. Terrorism and violence against innocent citizens should never be justified or become a routine occurrence. Such a cowardly and heartless attack on our communities must not be allowed to continue.”
The senator extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, their friends, and the entire Catholic community within the Kaduna South Senatorial District and the state as a whole. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Fadan Kamanton, the Kurama community, and the Catholic Diocese during this tragic and challenging period.
