Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko has called for a new minimum wage of ₦100,000 for Nigerian workers, deeming anything less an insult. He highlighted the difficulty workers face in surviving on the current wage amid Nigeria’s economic challenges. Nwoko stressed the need for a realistic evaluation of the economic situation to determine the appropriate minimum wage.
Speaking at an award event in Abuja, Nwoko argued that the proposed ₦100,000 is necessary to meet basic living standards. He emphasized the government’s role in creating a conducive environment for business and job creation, criticizing the current wage as insufficient for achieving life’s basic needs.
Additionally, Nwoko expressed support for the proposed ban on open grazing, citing benefits for both farmers and herders. He noted that the ban could reduce conflicts and improve the health of cattle by promoting ranching practices, similar to those in other countries.
