Nigerian musician Shallipopi has responded to claims that he paid N9 million to purchase “fake streams” in order to boost the position of his tracks on digital music charts. The allegations were made by a budding singer named Ebaide, who accused a music influencer of defrauding her by promising to increase her music streams but failing to deliver.
Ebaide mentioned in her statement that the influencer claimed to have completed a similar task for Shallipopi for N9 million. However, Shallipopi, responding through his social media handle, dismissed the allegations as “fake” and suggested that they were driven by individuals seeking attention.
In his response, Shallipopi wrote, “Fake!! Y’all are looking for attention with the wrong content and think it’s right? 9m wey I go take chill make I leave Plutomanias to dey stream!! Anyway, your karma is coming.”
The denial from Shallipopi sheds light on the challenges and controversies surrounding the digital music industry, including the authenticity of streaming numbers and the influence of influencers in shaping artists’ success on digital platforms.
