Renowned Nigerian singer Rema has faced significant online criticism for his approach to mourning his colleague, Mohbad.
On September 17, 2023, 23-year-old Rema joined the ranks of Nigerian celebrities who have used their social media platforms to express their grief over the passing of Mohbad, who tragically died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
While mourning Mohbad, Rema, known for his hit song “Calm Down,” expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, stating that no one should have to endure such a fate, and implying that this was just the beginning.
However, Rema’s online presence drew criticism when he revealed that he had ignored a message from Mohbad on his Instagram page back in 2020. In that message, the late singer had expressed his admiration for Rema’s song “Peace Of Mind.” Rema admitted that he had only seen the message after Mohbad’s passing and regretted not responding earlier.
In his tribute, Rema wrote, “No one deserves to go like this I’m hurt I never saw your DM You wrote ‘Peace of mind’ was your favorite song Now it’s too late to write vou back. God’s Angels be with you, Rest well King.”
