Six terrorists were killed by Nigerian Army troops on Friday during various operations in Kaduna State.
During the missions, the troops also recovered weapons and other supplies.
This followed the announcement on Friday by the military high command that troops stationed for counterterrorism operations had apprehended over 253 terrorists and detained 172 more.
The Nigerian Army said in a statement published on X on Saturday that it had ambushed some terrorists in response to information about their whereabouts in Kaduna’s Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas.
The service reported that following a gunfight, the terrorists left.
The statement said, “The military quickly organized to intercept the danger after receiving important information about the movement of terrorists in the Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna. The ambush operation was set up near Giwa LGA’s Kidandan Junction, where the soldiers waited and spoke with the militants. After exchanging gunfire, the terrorists left their weapons and ran.
The terrorists were tracked to another area where a terrorist scout was slain, the Army said, adding that two villages in the LGAs had been cleared by troops
s,The troops in their determination, followed the terrorists to Katoge village, a known terrorist enclave and crossing point, where they sighted the terrorists’ scout, who was immediately eliminated, resulting in the recovery of one semi-automatic pump-action rifle,” the post continued. “Continuing their mission, the troops moved on to clear Basurfe and Yuna villages. During this phase, they recovered one motorbike left behind by the escaping terrorists, who had crossed a nearby river valley.”
The mission came to an end in Saulawa village in Birnin Gwari LGA, where the troops came across multiple militants riding motorbikes, which resulted in a serious gunfight. By using overwhelming gunfire, the soldiers were able to take down five additional terrorists. Nine motorcycles, one G3 gun, and one AK-47 rifle were also recovered as a result of the fight.
