“Tensions Rise Within PDP over Wike’s Ministerial Appointment”

Prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are reportedly growing uneasy over the silence of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, in response to claims made by Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State governor and newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike asserted that he had formally notified Damagum and other party leaders about his ministerial nomination by President Bola Tinubu.

The PDP leadership, including members of the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee, had previously criticized Wike for his perceived anti-party activities, including his actions during the 2023 elections.

Despite Wike’s previous actions, such as leading his fellow governors in the Integrity Group to work against the PDP’s presidential candidate and congratulating Tinubu on his election victory, he recently disclosed that he had written to the PDP leadership about his ministerial nomination and received clearance from them.

Party members are reportedly questioning Damagum’s silence on the matter and are suggesting that he should address the situation. Some members feel that the matter cannot be ignored, and that clarification is needed from the acting National Chairman.

While the allegations made by Wike have created tensions within the PDP, the party’s response to this situation remains uncertain. As the party navigates these developments, internal discussions and potential actions are likely to unfold in the coming days.
