Thugs shoot two police officers in Ebonyi

Two police officers affiliated with the Ebonyi State Police Command are said to have been slain by thugs.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the event happened on Friday morning at Nwofe, a suburb of Abakaliki city in the Izzi Local Government Area. The victims were a patrol squad under surveillance.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the state’s police spokeswoman, confirmed the event in a statement and said that one more operator had been hurt in the attack.
The statement said, “Today, November 17, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am, armed thugs driving a tinted Highlander vehicle with an unknown registration number attacked Command personnel on patrol along Nwofe Road on the outskirts of Abakaliki.

“One of the operators is presently undergoing medical attention in the hospital, and the other two sustained fatal injuries. Following the distress call, tactical teams were sent to the location by the Commissioner of Police of the Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Augustina Ogbodo, psc. These teams also sprang into action, giving the hoodlums a fierce chase, but the hoodlums managed to flee.

Along with her management staff, the commissioner of police also made an on-the-spot assessment at the scene of the incident. She is utilizing this platform to appeal to well-meaning state residents to provide the command with pertinent information that may result in the capture of the escaping criminals, promising them a 24-hour visibility patrol of the state’s innards.
