In response to the recent attacks in local governments in Plateau State, the Federal Government has swiftly approved immediate assistance for the victims. According to a report by PUNCH Online, the attacks in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas on Christmas Eve resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and the destruction of 221 houses.
Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, revealed in a statement that President Bola Tinubu directed the provision of aid to the affected communities. The President instructed the ministry to collaborate with the Plateau State Government to offer humanitarian support to the survivors and the communities affected by the attacks.
Expressing her dismay over the incidents, Minister Betta Edu described the attacks as senseless, horrendous, and inhuman. She pledged her ministry’s commitment to working with the state government to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected.
In the official statement, the minister said, “It was with utter shock and sadness that I received the news of the barbaric, horrendous, and senseless attacks in Plateau communities, which have left over 100 people dead and injured many, while many more are displaced.”
She extended condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, especially the families of the victims, and expressed prayers for lasting peace in the region.
Minister Betta Edu reassured the public that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is committed to addressing humanitarian challenges across Nigeria. She emphasized the government’s determination to ensure that all Nigerians experiencing humanitarian crises receive adequate support, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The minister concluded, “We are unrelenting in our efforts to ensure that every Nigerian and all parts of Nigeria experiencing humanitarian crises are catered for in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
